Kura-Kura Homestay

Welcome to Kurakura Homestay. A true jungle guesthouse located next to Kuching Sarawak river, a paradise surrounded by the rain forest of Borneo, Malaysia. At this place we (Lars and Liza with our daughter Froya (born Jan 2010)) have built our jungle home, a small farm where we have our own organically grown vegetables, fruits, herbs and a pepper garden.

We have tried to build an ecological place with solar energy and recycling. And with four extra bedrooms, a  Bidayuh village (Kpg Semadang), wild jungle and Sarawak river flowing by it’s a beautiful place to stay and experience local life, culture, food and a inhospitable but amazing wilderness.

Basic but clean accommodation together with a amazing experience are what we can offer and for those who are interested in birds, reptiles or other creatures of the rain forest it’s a perfect place to stay and watch the wildlife. Please check out our site further and read more about trekking, river safari and jungle shopping.

Located in the rainforest of Sarawak, Borneo just 50min away from Kuching town. With a view over Sarawak river away from traffic and concrete this is a peaceful place to explore the tropical jungle surrounding and to join Liza and Lars on one of their activities.

Jungle shopping: Learn to understand the forest and how the locals have survived from what the forest can provide. What tastes good, what cures sickness, what is eatable and what may hurt you? Follow us plucking wild vegetables, fruits and herbs. If interested join us prepare all the ingredients for supper.

If you’re interested in food, we will prepare local and traditional Bidayuh food. Liza is a chef by proffesion and have experience from both western and asian cuisine. Here you will have the opportunity to taste dishes you won’t find in any restaurant.

After dark when the jungle awakes, it’s a good time to explore the nearby forest with a torch. There is amazing how many strange looking creatures who apparently hides during daytime.

Things to bring: Swim wear, Mosquito repellent, Flashlight, trekking shoes(some old trainers will do or trekking sandals with toe protection) and long pants for trekking/caving.
